Introduction

A. Introduction

The Tourist Police Unit was launched on October 16, 2013 in order to play a role as a companion to foreign visitors to Korea. The Tourist Police Unit made up of policemen proficient in English, Chinese and Japanese is stationed in seven special tourism zones, downtown Seoul. The Tourism Police Unit listens to all kinds of inconveniences that foreign tourists are experiencing, such as unqualified guides, rip-offs, illegal call vans, customers’ soliciting acts, and no indication of prices, through continuous and scrutinous site patrols. By conducting investigations and crackdowns on tourism-related crimes, we will make continuous efforts to eradicate all kinds of illegal acts targeting foreign tourists.

B. Working sites and hours

  • Myeongdong/Itaewon/Dongdaemun/Insa-dong/Hongdae Entrance/Cheonggye-cheon/City Hall (seven zones), among which in four zones (Myeongdong/Hongdae/Itaewon/Dongdaemun) are operated police centers (Please, refer to the below table)
  • The Tourism Police Unit has designated seven special tourism zones where unlawful acts are frequently committed for foreign tourists. We are conducting crackdowns, investigations and patrols aimed for the prevention of all kinds of crimes against foreign tourists and maintenance of basic orders in each special tourism zone.
